How far out do you go from Newcastle?
Thirty miles by road from Newcastle, measured along the roads we drive rather than in a straight line on a map.
We measure our area by road, not by a circle on a map. A village across the river may be close as the crow flies and far by the bridges, so the road distance decides whether we come. Thirty road miles takes us up the coast, along the Tyne valley, down to Sunderland and Durham, and out into south-east Northumberland.
The area crosses council boundaries. Some of it sits in Northumberland, some in County Durham, and the rest in the Tyneside and Wearside boroughs. Each town page names the council that applies there.
