Fill in the form below or message us on WhatsApp. What happens next, step by step, so there are no surprises.

After you message
What happens once I send the form?
We read it, reply to you, and arrange a survey at the house. No price is given before the survey, because we need to see the roof.
Your form or WhatsApp message reaches us directly. We read what you have said about the house and the room, and we reply to ask anything missing and to fix a day for the visit. A photo of the ceiling and one of the roof help a great deal, though neither is required.
If your home is a flat, tell us which floor. It changes the planning route, and we would rather talk about that before the visit than during it.
Using WhatsApp instead
The form and WhatsApp lead to the same place. A message to 07880 284133 suits you if you would rather send photos straight from your phone, and email to info@quaysideskylightsnewcastle.co.uk works for anyone who prefers to write at length. Whichever you pick, you get a reply from us, and the next step is the same: a day for the survey.
Before the visit
Nothing needs to be tidied or cleared in advance. It helps to know where the loft hatch or the stairs to the room are, and to have the title or lease for the property to hand if a neighbouring flat may share the roof.
The survey
What does the survey cover?
The room, the roof, the opening, the structure around it and the rules for your type of home. It is free, and it comes before any price.
On the day, we study the ceiling from inside and the roof from outside, wherever that can be done safely. We measure the existing or intended opening and note what is around it: rafters, joists, the roof covering and the finish.
- The size and position that will light the room best.
- How the opening will be framed and finished inside.
- Whether planning permission applies, which it does for a flat.
- Who owns the roof, if the building is shared.
- Whether Building Control needs to be notified.
You can ask us anything during the visit. It is a conversation, not a sales pitch.
If the roof is shared
Where a building is split into flats, your own paperwork settles the question of the roof and the space beneath it, including whether the other flat has a say. Look at yours, and have a word with the neighbour who shares the building, before anything is ordered. We can suggest what to ask, but the document decides, not us.
How long it takes
The visit is short for a simple replacement and longer for a new opening, where there is more to measure and talk through. We will give you a sense of timing before we leave, and the written quote follows afterwards.
Our view: the survey is where most surprises come out, so we do it first and price afterwards.
The quote
What will the written quote show?
The product, the opening, the work included, and one fixed figure. The number stays put as long as the work does.
After the survey we write the quote down. It names the product and its size, describes the work to be done, and gives the price as a single fixed figure. It also states if planning permission or a Building Control notification forms part of the job.
Take your time over it. If you are comparing it with another firm's, the costs page lists the points that make two quotes look different when the work is the same.
Going ahead
What happens if I say yes?
We agree a date, handle the Building Control notification where it is needed, fit the unit, and give you the guarantee in writing.
Once you accept the quote we agree a date that suits you. Where your home is a flat and the work needs planning permission, that comes first, and the date follows the decision.
The notification to Building Control is our job where the work is notifiable. After the fitting, your 10-year workmanship guarantee goes into your paperwork. Its terms are set out in full on the guarantee page.
