Terms and Conditions
These terms cover your use of this website and summarise how a quote becomes a contract for work. Last updated 25 October 2026. Please read them before you rely on the site or accept a quote.
About these terms
Who are these terms between?
Between you and Quayside Skylights Newcastle upon Tyne. They govern the website; any work is governed by the written quote and its terms.
This website is run by Quayside Skylights Newcastle upon Tyne ("we", "us"). By using it, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.
There are two layers. These terms apply to the website and to the general information on it. When you ask us to carry out work, a separate contract is made through our written quote, described in the chapters below.
You can contact us at info@quaysideskylightsnewcastle.co.uk or on WhatsApp at 07880 284133 about anything here.
Using the site
What are the rules for using this website?
Use it lawfully, do not interfere with it, and treat its content as ours. Links to other sites are for convenience only.
You may read this website and send us enquiries through it. You must not use it in a way that is unlawful, that tries to gain unauthorised access to the site or its systems, or that interferes with its normal working.
Our content
The text, images and design on this site belong to us or are used with permission. You may view and print pages for your own personal use. You may not copy them for commercial use without our written consent.
Links to other sites
We link to official sources, such as government and council pages, so you can check the rules yourself. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content.
Information is general
Can I rely on the guidance on this site?
It is general guidance, not legal or planning advice. Rules vary by property, and a survey and the council are the places to confirm yours.
The guides, answers and pages here describe how planning, Building Regulations and ownership usually work for skylights and rooflights in England. We take care to keep them accurate, but laws and policies change, and your property may be subject to conditions this site cannot know about.
Nothing here is legal advice, planning advice or a statement about your particular address. On who owns a shared roof, the answer sits in your title or lease, and a solicitor can read it with you. For planning, ask the local planning authority or use the Planning Portal.
Quotes and contracts
How does a quote become a contract?
After a survey we give a fixed written quote. When you accept it, the quote and its terms are the contract for the work.
We give no price before a free survey. After the survey we issue a written quote setting out the product, the work included and a fixed price. The figure holds so long as the work stays as surveyed, and moves only if you ask for something different, such as another size or product.
The quote is valid for a stated period: [operator to confirm: N days]. After that we may need to review it.
The contract
The contract for work is the written quote together with its terms, once you accept it. Nothing on this website, and no guidance given at a survey, forms part of that contract unless the quote says so.
Planning and notifications
Where the work needs planning permission, listed building consent or a Building Control notification, the quote says who is responsible for each step. We handle the Building Control notification where the work is notifiable.
Payment
How and when do I pay?
Payment terms are set out in your written quote. The business sets them, and they are confirmed there.
The payment terms for each job appear in the written quote you accept: [operator to confirm: deposit, stage payments and final balance terms].
If you have a query about an invoice, tell us promptly using the details above, so we can look into it before the due date.
Cancelling
Can I cancel a contract?
If the contract was made at your home or away from our premises, you normally have 14 days to cancel under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013.
If you are a consumer and the contract is made off-premises, such as at your home after a survey, the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 give you a right to cancel within 14 days. The period starts on the day the contract is made. You can cancel without giving a reason, by telling us clearly in writing, and an email to info@quaysideskylightsnewcastle.co.uk is enough.
If work starts within the 14 days
If you ask us to begin the work within the 14 days, we will ask you to confirm that request in writing. If you then cancel, you must pay for what has been done up to the point you told us, in proportion to the full price. If the work is finished before the period ends and you asked for that, the right to cancel can be lost once you have been told so. The details are in your quote.
You can read the rules on gov.uk: gov.uk publishes the official guidance for consumers.
Liability and law
What is our liability, and which law applies?
We do not limit liability that the law does not allow us to limit. English law governs these terms, and the courts of England and Wales hear disputes.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not let us exclude. Your statutory rights as a consumer are not affected.
Subject to that, we are not liable for loss arising from your reliance on general information on this website, or for loss that could not reasonably have been foreseen when you used it. Our workmanship on an installation is covered by the guarantee described on our guarantee page.
Governing law
These terms, and any dispute arising from them, are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction, although consumers may also be able to bring a claim where they live.
Changes
We may update these terms from time to time. The date at the top shows the latest version. Please read these terms with care.
